Everyone is aware of the mass consumption on Black Friday, but why not give the gift of a wedding veil this Green Friday? Green Friday is a national campaign in Ireland this year developed to combat Black Friday, which has turned into one of the biggest days in the shopping calendar.

Led by Marian O'Gorman, who is CEO of retail group Kilkenny and is backed by trade associations including the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, Retail Excellence, Chambers Ireland, Green Friday aims to remind consumers of the local brands that are available on their doorstep. Although the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events have been extremely popular with consumers herein Ireland, (with more than €50m spent over the course of the weekend last year) the purchase of overseas goods, it means that Irish businesses are starting to lose out on when Christmas time is supposed to be the most profitable time of the year. This year, the aim of Irish brands is to promote the  support of local economy, support jobs and help nurture the country's creative community, manufacturers and service providers by buying Irish. Did you know that if each adult spent just €20 extra in Irish business and brands this Christmas, it would mean in increase of almost €73million to the Irish economy?

Here at Fitzpatricks’s Veils of Ireland, we are fully behind Green Friday this year, not just because of economic profit, but also because we are huge supporters of the Irish industry and we promote that buying local is more sustainable. Black Friday is one of the worst culprits when it comes to sustainability. When you buy online from outside of Ireland, the carbon footprint is huge. This, as well as the fact that discounted goods are often unethically produced, has made us really proud to be supporting Green Friday this year.
