We are delighted to announce a very special new veil design which has been inspired by our American Irish  and Canadian Irish brides. These brides span several generations and in each person lies the history of generations before; their culture, their heritage, their folk memory.   We at Fitzpatrick’s Veils of Ireland understand that, and embrace it. After all, there are more Irish people outside of Ireland than in it. According to a census performed by the United States and Canada, there’s a total of about 37 million Irish people living in both countries.Compare this to the 4.8 million living in Ireland, and we see a culture that has more people who celebrate their Irishness through memory, than through physically living on the Emerald Isle.  So, of course, it makes sense that people would want to honour their history and previous generations on their wedding day. These custom made veils are incredibly special and it’s for this reason we’ve partnered with Mary O’Neill, of The Lace Gallery, to bring you veils that truly embrace Irish heritage.

Mary comes from Kilbride in Tullow, County Carlow, where she learned the craft of Carrickmacross Lacemaking from a young age. Carickmacross is an old lacemaking style; developed in 1820, it consists of three layers pressed to each other to make a gorgeous pattern.  These are then sewn together to make an outline of the relevant image. Mary took this concept and brought her work a step forward. Using Carrickmacross as an inspiration, she developed her own unique lacemaking practices, incorporating the graduated picot technique to give her work a gorgeous edge. Mary has also learned how to make Borris Lace and takes great pride in this because of the local connection. Borris Lace originates from Borris House in Co Carlow, long associated with the Kavanagh Family. Her work has won a number of awards, twice including the prestigious Eleanor De La Branchardiere award for innovative design.  Mary’s craft is infused with Irish spirit, a spirit you can incorporate on the most important day of your life.

By partnering with Mary, we bring you a truly stunning custom made veil that calls back to cultural touchstones.   From the Celtic Knot with its endless loops, to symbolize eternity, or shamrocks (to remind us of the teachings of Saint Patrick himself),  we can make you the perfect, custom, hand-made veil… one that’s made for you, and you alone. This veil can be any length and incorporate any amount of lace designs to get the ethereal effect you want for your wedding photographs.

Because our veils are made from the finest materials, they are heirlooms and can last up to one hundred years - if looked after correctly.  This means your daughter - or another loved one - can reinvent the veil on their wedding day, becoming their ‘something used’ and creating a very special and emotional bond between you.  Our veils come in a keepsake box with care instructions provided. Because they are of such a high standard, we can make them in many different colours. (One of our brides had four different wedding dresses and veils made for her celebrations).   If you are not sure yet what colour you need, please contact us and we will send your our swatch pack (free of charge). This contains all available lace colours from which you can match your dress colour. We will then make the veil to match the dress.
